6 Ways to Believe in Yourself
Believe in Yourself
We all have the power to believe in ourselves. Indeed, we are all capable of that but that doesn’t make it so. Until we tap into our potential, until we give ourselves permission to explore our possibilities we never know what we are capable of.
None of us were born to be a spectator, to sit on the sidelines of life and just look on, we are not meant to be average, we are all meant to shine, we all have something special inside of us though we all may not recognize it for ourselves.
“There is inside you all the potential to be whatever you want to be, all the energy to do whatever you want to do” Donna Levine
Our potential is limitless and when we see it as limited we are bowing to all of the restrictive expectations and beliefs we have been presented with in our lives. Actually, each of us is divinely individual with unique potential and personal growth is an intentional acceptance to become all that we are truly capable of – to stretch and expand our capacity.
1. Take Time for Reflection
Take 20 -30 minutes on a regular basis to lose yourself in your thoughts. Take time out from all the usual distractions – TV, emails, phones, people that usually occupy and influence your decisions. Create a space where it feels safe to open our mind, think, ponder, contemplate, imagine, visualize, dream. Think about your past, your present, your future and consider What have I achieved? What am I capable of? What are my strengths? Where do I want to be etc, etc, etc.
Let your thoughts, realizations, insights bubble up – Make your list in a special book that you can read and re read and be a constant reminder.
“At the center of your being you have the answer; you know who you are and you know what you want”. Lao Tzu
2. Be an Optimist
Your whole perception of life will change if you always look for the silver lining – the positive in every situation – and recognize that in every setback lies an opportunity even though it may not be immediately apparent.
“What seems to us to be bitter trials are often blessings in disguise”. Oscar Wilde
“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up”. Thomas Edison
3. Set an Intention
Set your dreams on fire, give them wings, send out an intention that stretches you way beyond the limits of your comfort zone. You can reach your goals or purpose only to find you have only just begun the journey to reach your potential and your infinite possibilities.
“The more you dream, the further you get”. Michael Phelps
4. Be Grateful
Expressing gratitude invites more and better things to come into your life. Keep a gratitude journal, record your thankful thoughts on a daily basis. Every night recall three tiny, or not so tiny blessings you received today. Appreciate the now.
“What if you gave someone a gift and they neglected to thank you for it – would you be likely to give them another? In order to attract more of the blessings that life has to offer, you must truly appreciate what you already have”. Ralph Marston
5. Embrace Change
Change is unavoidable if you are to move from where you are to where you are capable of being. Stepping into unknown territory can be scary and also exciting – there’s a thin line between the two – choose to be excited by the prospect of your unfolding potential.
“One does not discover new lands without losing sight of the shore”. Unknown
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the things you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sales. Explore, Dream, Discover”. Mark Twain
6. Now imagine you are at the end of your life
List the things you wish you had done
Ask yourself, what are the golden moments and achievements that make you smile a warm beaming smile to know you had the courage to grasp with both hands and embrace for dear life.
“Doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment”. Oprah Winfrey
“Everyone has inside of him a piece of good news. The good news is that you don’t know how great you can be! How much you can love! What you can accomplish! And what your potential is!” Anne Frank
