Thoughts on Potential
I guess it’s quite noticeable how often I speak of Potential.
It’s part of who I am and what I do because I believe my gift is to be able to see the huge potential and possibilities in others. I has almost become a mission in life to enable other women to experience the empowerment and freedom of stepping into that part of themselves they are not even fully aware of because I know what a huge and magnificent difference it made to my won life.
I had a wonderful teacher and experienced the joys of being allowed to embrace those things closest to my heart.
“Our thoughts and imagination are the only real limits to our possibilities.”
~ Orison Swett Marden
I tell the story of how, many years ago it was like all the stars came into alignment and gave me the opportunity to work for and become really good friends with an amazing woman who’s influence still touches my life today. She was able to see a spark within me that was deeply hidden from view and with her love, laughter and not always so gentle persuasion it was nurtured and encouraged out into the light of day, for which I will be forever grateful. Jill guided me into the world of Personal Development with permission to combine my natural creativity with all I was exploring and learning ~ she recognised that feeding someone’s passion was a great way to ensure success, confidence and feelings of accomplishment. Sadly she died in 1998 but I like to think her energy still influences the work I am privileged to do today.
So I thought I take a peek at Potential – what it is and what it can mean in our lives.
Potent – How often do you ever feel powerfully effective in your life?
Would you like to?
We are designed to function at our optimum level – to be fully engaged in the exploration of all we are capable of becoming. Your potential is within the realm of Possibility!
So what stops you going for what you want?
What would it take to dig deep and unearth the treasures within you?
Are you prepared to allow yourself to shine?
I want for you to never underestimate the power of your dreams and the potential and influence of the human spirit. The potential for growth lives within each of us when we grow intentionally, live purposefully, love unreservedly
Potential is about developing your gifts, talent and abilities – it’s about discovering where your passions lie and then putting those gifts, talents and abilities into action. The possibilities truly are limitless if you will only allow yourself the opportunity.
“Argue for your limitations and sure enough they’re yours.” – Richard Bach
Our potential is limitless when we see ourselves as limited we are bowing to old thoughts, convenient stories and limiting believes. We are, each of us, divinely unique individuals with unique potential.
Realizing that potential is up to you.
Practice learning how to be true to yourself.
Where are you giving your power away? And who to?
It’s by stepping into the truth of who you are, recognizing your values and beliefs, letting go of what no longer serves you and becoming comfortable in our own skin that you can begin to recognize and realize your potential and your power.
George Bernard Shaw is said to have played the ‘What if’ game shortly before he died.
‘Mr Shaw’ asked a reporter, ‘If you could live your life over and be anyone you know or any person from history who would you be?
“I would choose”, replied Shaw,” to be the man George Bernard Shaw could have been but never was”.
I’m not saying it’s easy, it often takes courage to begin especially if you are firmly entrenched in your comfort zone but I’m convinced that deep down the majority of us have an understanding of our capacity for change. Some women come to the decision because they just cannot stay where they are for a moment longer, for others it’s a more considered decision but you know there is never a right time to do a difficult thing. It’s about focusing on your potential rather than limitations
Just imagine for a moment … how it would feel to reveal the jewels of the treasures inside of you …

Begin today – take three minutes – write a list without stopping and without taking your pen off the paper, of all the things you would wish for if you had no limitations – it might feel strange or childish or like make believe but do it anyway.
Create a daily to do list that includes at least one thing that will help you on your journey towards whatever it is you desire and cross off each thing you accomplish.
You might find you reach your goal only to find you’re only just beginning the journey to reach your potential.
I have a saying “On the way to your Dream, you might find a better one”
Begin today. How are you going to feel if you never take the first step to embracing your Possibilities and your Potential?
What one step can you begin with today?
