Learn to fly

Accept everything about yourself - I mean everything. You are you and that is the beginning and end - no apologies, no regret. Henry Kissinger

Ahhh great sentiments, but that could be a rather a tall order for some of us I hear you say.... Okay, so maybe a few guide lines are in order? ... These may feel like ideals, yes, I agree but it's always good to have a reference or two to encourage our growth.

What do you have to do to be fully appreciative of yourself and your personal qualities, to be proud of yourself?

Each and every one of us is unique and even though we grow up with other peoples' beliefs and regulations there comes a time to make our own rules.

You're the one who defines who you are and how you behave in this world. Establish your own codes of conduct and values and stick to them. When you become comfortable and confident about who you are and how you behave your insecurities diminish.

Life changes dramatically when we begin to like who we are.

Looking for approval outside of yourself is futile. Compliments and flattery are short lived, they only fill you up for a little while and when you have to chase them because they aren't forthcoming how does it make you feel?  When you like yourself from the inside it really doesn't matter what other people think - you can never please all the people all of the time anyway.

Treat yourself lovingly, as if you were a jewel

To do this you need to establish some criteria that support your relationship with yourself. When something happens ask yourself:

  • Is this good for me?
  • Is this right?
  • Does this make me happy?

Now ask yourself:

  • What do I want?
  • What would really, really make me happy?
  • What do I like?

You are the most precious thing you have. Cherish yourself. You are uniquely valuable.  Treat yourself as you would your dearest friend, live your life from a place that feels right for you, a place of innate integrity, and from a place that allows you feel good about yourself.

You were born with potential
You were born with goodness and trust
You were born with ideas and dreams
You were born with greatness
You were born with wings
You were not meant for crawling, so don't
You have wings
Learn to use them and fly
