The beautiful life enhancing energy that is Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki is the name given to a system of natural healing which evolved in Japan from ancient teachings. Reiki continues to be taught by Reiki Masters who have trained in the tradition passed down from Master to student. The word Reiki (pronounced ‘Ray-key’) means Universal Energy - The energy that flows in and around every living being. Current research strongly suggests that energy does extend throughout and beyond the physical body, and that disruptions or imbalances in its flow correlate to physical, mental and emotional illness. The healing art of Reiki addresses these imbalances to support good health and well-being.
The Usui System of Reiki is the most simple and natural healing method known to man. The Reiki practitioner is a channel for this energy, for it is not his/her own. Reiki is directed through the hands to wherever it is needed.
Developed by Dr Usui after his enlightenment on Mount Kurama, Reiki has spread throughout the world as a respected form of healing used by many millions of people.
Reiki is complementary to all forms of treatment. The effects of Reiki can help restore and balance energy, reduce anxiety and alleviate pain, whilst promoting restful sleep, healing and relaxation. Relaxation provides a host of benefits for the mind and body including a sense of well-being and release of muscle tension.
Reiki may be received as a therapeutic treatment and/or as part of a personal journey of well being. With regular use Reiki offers a multitude of benefits, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Generally people feel less stressed, more energised and far more focused. Reiki is often life changing – especially when a student is attuned to the energy – it then becomes the beginning of self-discovery, a spiritual journey towards enlightenment.

LEARNING REIKI FOR YOURSELF
I can teach you - Get in touch - Let's chat
Becoming attuned to Reiki is a very special, unique experience. It has the potential to bring about positive and powerful changes in your life and can help clarify your purpose and direction. By promoting deep healing it can bring new awareness helping to release the past in order to make way for the future finding greater joy and harmony in your life.
My greatest wish is for you to receive the very best possible introduction to the Reiki philosophy and teachings so that you too may embrace this wonderful energy. My intention is for you to feel totally at ease, comfortable and confident as you integrate this energy into your life.
My passion and breadth of knowledge has been gained from more than seventeen years of daily Reiki practice. I have attended workshops hosted by Phyllis Furamoto, Head of Lineage of the Western Usui System, and received attunements from Japanese Reiki master Hiroshi Doi who is one of the leading authorities on the practice of Reiki in Japan. It is always such a pleasure to share those experiences with students as they embark on their own new, exciting journey.
Because you are special, you have after all made this investment and commitment to yourself, I believe you deserve extraordinary care and attention.
During winter months workshops take place in my cozy 450 year old beamed cottage with blazing log fires and delicious home cooked lunches. You decide whether you would like to receive your attunement inside or out in the country side.
In summer months, April to October, your tuition still takes place in the cottage however you have the opportunity to receive your initiation and a simple lunch prepared by the monk Maitraya in his glorious Japanese Garden just a few minutes down the road.
All teachings are supported by a comprehensive manual and beautiful certificates.

My Personal Journey with Reiki
I whole heartedly believe that Reiki finds us, usually when we need it most.
I had noticed the symbol in a local newspaper advertisement and for some reason felt a strange attraction but it was months before I was actually in a position to receive a brief treatment at a local healing fayre in 1998.
And so my love affair with the wonderful energy that is Reiki began.
From the first introduction I was so impressed by the subtle and hugely powerful effects of Reiki.
It comforted and empowered me through a heart wrenching stage in my life, (both my husband and best friend died from cancer within three months of one another), and enabled me to feel hope, trust and love in a world that could easily have been viewed from a very different darker perspective.
When I realised I could personally learn to channel Reiki energy my intention was to take the first degree class only. I had no idea how smitten I would be by the way the energy supported and encompassed my whole life and how quickly it would become an integral part of my being. Level I progressed into Level II and within one year I had resigned from the day job teaching Personal Development to groups in the Community and Adults with Learning Disabilities.
Reiki literally became who I am and what I do. The invitation to undertake the Master Teacher level in 2000 was transformational. I introduced Reiki into the local Hospice at this time and worked there once or twice a week as a volunteer with patients and carers for four and a half years. Another Reiki person has since continued the practice.
Reiki doesn’t always show us the easiest path but it does give us choices and opportunities to take the ‘road less travelled’. When things show up in the way of thoughts, memories and inklings that feel uncomfortable or totally undoable I have to admit to having ducked out on occasion only to have them reoccur in a different guise at a later date when maybe I’ve felt more courage or been more ready to handle them. Whenever things get out of balance I simply have another treatment. I am very blessed to have what I can only describe as a soul connection with a wonderful friend who has shared the journey and swapped weekly treatments for over a decade.
It has been my privilege to work with, treat and train many, many people through their joys, trials and tribulations in addition to taking part in workshops and seminars with revered, respected and inspirational teachers Phyllis Furamoto, Paul Mitchell, Hiroshi Doi and Inamoto Hyakuten.
With regular practice Reiki does become a way of being. It doesn’t promise a perfect existence but what it has done, from my own perspective is to illuminate the path to a more peaceful, loving, balanced and harmonious life – not all the time – but then Reiki certainly provides a means to deal with the ups and downs as they arise.
There are many paths to spiritual growth and transformation - all of them are valid. I simply offering one way and it may be the way for you.
What are the benefits of Reiki?
With regular use Reiki has a multitude of benefits, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Once attuned the student has continuous access, on every level of their being. Regular self-healing increases the flow, and the beneficial effects of the Reiki energy. Generally people feel less stressed, more energised and far more focused. Life often seems clearer, and life’s purpose is often more apparent. Reiki is life changing – the beginning of self-discovery, a spiritual journey towards enlightenment.
Reiki treatments are given usually given lying down and the recipient is fully clothed no massage is involved. The practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions, which cover the whole body. The whole person is treated rather than specific symptoms.
Reiki gives deep and powerful healing, working on all levels. Reiki can be used to treat any condition, whether it is physical or emotional.
The most common thing experienced during treatment is a sense of peace and relaxation, often with a pleasant sense of security. Clients may fall asleep but this makes no difference to the treatment. On other occasions, old and unresolved experiences may become conscious again. A release of emotion can occur and tears may flow or a laugh of relief will be released. No Reiki session is ever the same, since every individual is unique and in constant change.
Reiki cannot promise a complete cure, but it will help, whether physically or emotionally. In some cases a physical problem is caused by an emotional trauma and once that is healed the physical pain dissipates also. In some cases such as terminal illness, there is not enough time for the progress of the disease to be reversed. However, in such cases there is usually great benefit and enhancement of quality of life giving a sense of peace and acceptance during the time remaining.
